Hippotherapy

Hippotherapy is a term that refers to the use of the movement of the horse as a medical tool. The horse's walk provides sensory input through movement, which is variable, rhythmic and repetitive. The resultant movement responses in the patient are similar to human movement patterns of the pelvis while walking. Licensed physical therapists and physical therapy assistants use the horse and the ranch setting to accomplish treatment goals as specified by a physician's prescription.

Trail Blazers

Taught by NARHA-certified instructors, Trail Blazers is a developmental riding therapy program. The Trail Blazers program utilizes horseback riding for clients with physical, mental, cognitive, social or behavioral problems, and often serves as a continuation of the treatment an individual received previously in hippotherapy. Beyond just improvement in the individual's confidence and discipline while improving gross and fine motor skills, posture, balance, and coordination, Trail Blazers participants develop more refined horsemanship skills and many go on to compete in are and state Special Olympics, Top Hands in Houston or Chisholm Challenge in Fort Worth.

Horses for Heroes

Rocky Top Therapy Center is offering our military veterans and their families Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Therapeutic Riding through the Horses for Heroes program.  In an effort to meet the needs and improve the lives of these heroes, Horses for Heroes partners mental helath professionals with North Amermican Riding for Handicapped Association (NARHA) certified riding instructors, incorporating every possible benefit the scenic Rocky Top Ranch setting has to offer.

Horses for Heroes utilizes EAP, an innovative form of therapy that incorporates horses and mental health professionals, to address many of the challenges that arise for service men and women who have suffered trauma in the line of duty, helping them to adjust physically and emotionally to their post-war lives.

In addition, veterans and their families will have the opportunity to mount their chosen equine companion and experience the therapeutic nature of horseback riding amidst the tranquil setting of the ranch, unde the careful instruction of NARHA certified riding instructors.

Rocky Top provides 90-minute individual, couple and family sessions at a cost of $120 a session.  Funding has been granted through Operation Healthy Reunions offered by Mental Health Association of Tarrant County.
